Illegal Jesus

1. What does “Illegal Jesus” mean?

We believe that “Illegal Jesus” can be taken to mean a number of things – let your imagination run wild. The actual origination of the blog title came from a twitter post made by Indie Goddess. After following the election feed at twitter, she became enraged by the idea that Republicans were asserting that anyone who voted against McCain/Palin in 2008 were going to “burn in hell” and “were not Christians” or “did not believe in God.”

Being a Quaker herself, she took offense to this. We all have our ideas as to “who would Jesus vote for?” Well, okay many of us don’t give a shit, and it shouldn’t, I think, matter. Render unto Caesar what is Caesars, and all of that. Plus we have separation of church and state in this country, and to politik from the pulpit or to allege that all followers of another party are going to hell, is just plain political bullshit and fundamentalist smearing of anyone who doesn’t agree with them. OMGZ BB KILLERZ!!!, etc.

So, she made a twitter post that alleged, basically, that Jesus would not vote Republican, because he was not a naturalized or native-born citizen of the United States, and that he therefore had no right to vote in this, or any, U.S. election. Barring, of course, the Republicans committing voter fraud and signing him up to vote illegally.

A Highschool friend saw this twitter, responded with “Illegal Jesus!!! HAHAHAHAHA.” Or something to that effect, responded a few more times with thoughts that it should be IG’s band name, that IG should register the domain (no money), and etc. Writer Writing and Indie Goddess had been trying to come up with a name for their joint blog at that point, and voila – a blog title was born.

And that’s more than you really need or want to know about IG’s twittering habits.
