Danger of allowing vile talk, and also an introduction

Posted in personal, political by writerwriting on October 10, 2008

I’m in a bit of hurry right now because I’m hungry and need to grab something to eat (cookies) before I leave the house for work. I wanted to get my foot in the door since indiegoddess is kicking my ass on posts.

There is no better way to make my introduction than to post about something related to the Rwandan genocide. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but lately some people have been shouting things at McCain and Palin rallies. I believe in free speech and think that people should be allowed their opinions but inciting violence against people, particularly against someone who could possibly lead this country, can only lead to trouble. One of the most effective ways in which the Hutu militia incited people to violence (the genocidal kind) was through the radio. They used the airwaves to propagate hate, calling the Tutsies cockroaches, and instructing Hutus to “cut down the tall trees”.

We all know how that ended.

We might not be close to a genocidal rampage in this country but I really don’t think we need people in the highest offices in the land that will stand idly by while their followers spew vile hate speech and fling death threats – death threats – about the opposing candidate. Does the McCain campaign condone this kind of talk? Where are these so-called Christian values that Sarah Palin possesses? So far, that campaign has given me NO reason to believe they don’t condone that kind of talk and behavior. None.

So there you go. I’m writerwriting. It’s nice to meet you.
